How to find out if a building is listed or apply to get it listed

Is my building listed?

You can find out if your building is listed by contacting the Vale’s conservation officer using the contact details on the right.

How to apply to get a building listed?

Anyone can apply for a building to be listed. If you wish to have a building considered, you should write to:

When making an application please include as many details as possible, including:

  • Address of the building
  • Any information about the building (for example its age)
  • Details of current or previous uses of the building
  • Details of any historical associations
  • The name of the architect (if known)
  • Details of any “group value”
  • Details of any interior features of interest
  • Clear, original external and internal photographs
  • The name and contact details of owner (if known)
  • A location map (such as an Ordnance Survey map).

Decisions to list a building are are taken by the Secretary of State for Culture Media and Sport, on the advice of English Heritage.
