Community Safety Partnership

The Crime & Disorder Act 1998 placed a statutory requirement on Local Authorities and the Police to work in partnership to reduce crime and disorder.

In order to achieve this, Community Safety Partnerships (CSP's) were formed. These partnerships were required every three years to:

  • Conduct an audit of crime and disorder and drug misuse
  • Consult widely on the results of the audit
  • Produce a three-year crime reduction strategy
  • Implement, monitor and evaluate the strategy

The Police and Justice Act 2006 has now withdrawn the requirement to complete three-year audits and strategy. The CSP is instead required to conduct a strategic intelligent assessment (SIA), which will be used to inform new three-year annual rolling strategic plans. We are currently in the process of conducting an assessment and the new plan will be available from 1 April 2008 when the existing strategy comes to an end.

See Community Safety Strategy 2008-11 for more information about the strategy and to download the document.

The Partnership’s mission:
“We will work together to sustain a community in which people feel safe and free as far as possible from crime, the fear of crime and other forms of anti social behaviour which detract from the quality of life.”

The Partnership’s aim:

  •  Reduce crime by 10.1 per cent by 31 March 2008 meaning 387 fewer crimes
  •  To reassure the public by reducing the fear of crime and anti-social behaviour.

The Partnership’s members:
