Homophobia Awareness Liaison Team (HALT)

What is HALT?

HALT is a multi agency partnership which aims to challenge and eliminate all forms of homophobia and to offer support to victims of homophobic or transphobic abuse.

HALT works to support lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people in Oxfordshire.

Who makes up HALT?

  •  Representatives from the LGBT community in Oxfordshire
  •  The five district councils
  •  Oxfordshire County Council
  •  Thames Valley Police
  •  Terrence Higgins Trust
  •  Criminal Justice Board
  •  Oxfordshire Primary Care Trust.

What does HALT do?

Here are some of the things that HALT has done over the past few months:

  • Ran a local campaign to raise awareness about reporting homophobic crime. This included holding an outreach event in LGBT venues in Oxford and having a stand at the Oxford Pride
  • Produced and distributed posters across Oxfordshire to encourage reporting.
  • Highlighted the need for increased safety measures around the Coven nightclub in Oxford, which helped lead to increased police presence in the area
  • Ran a workshop for agencies to raise awareness of LGBT issues.

For more information about how to report a homophobic incident, see our page Reporting homophobic incidents.
