The Vale’s Youth Cabinet has got funding to produce a brand new magazine for young people.
The magazine - called VYM (Vale Youth Magazine) - is written and produced by young people, for young people. The first issue was published in autumn 2008 and can be downloaded from the right of the page.
The magazine is free and will be distributed through schools and youth clubs. A total of 75,000 copies will be printed over three issues during the coming year.
This initiative is funded by the Department for Education and Skills through the Youth Opportunity Fund/Youth Capital Fund. The grant of nearly £15,000 was awarded at the Vale Divisional Youth Forum meeting in May by a panel of young people. The fund is managed by Oxfordshire County Council Youth Service.
The idea behind the magazine is to promote a positive image of young people and provide a way for them to communicate effectively. Young people can also get involved by writing articles, reviews or featuring in the magazine.
Nynke Arscott, who is part of the editorial sub-group and a reporter for the magazine said: “The Cabinet has worked really hard to get this magazine funded and it’s great that we’ve got this opportunity to do something positive for young people.”
The project will be supported by Vale officers and Members.
