Food safety

The Council has a statutory obligation to enforce food safety and hygiene legislation in around 1,000 food premises in the Vale. The Food and Safety Team carries out work to check that these premises – which range from small shops to large caterers and food manufacturers – are complying with legislation and meeting food safety and hygiene standards.

The Team does this through:

• Inspecting food businesses
• Sampling food products
• Investigating complaints about premises and food
• Investigating causes of food poisoning
• Providing advice to businesses.
