Your Vale - how you can make a difference

Your Vale is a new campaign designed to help highlight all those people in the District who are working to make their community a better place to live. We also want to help show you how easily you too can make a difference!

Your Vale

Here at the Council we are working on a range of different projects to help create a cleaner, greener, safer and healthier community and environment. Another priority for the Council is to rise to the challenge of climate change.

We also know there are scores of you out there doing your bit to make the Vale a better place. Over the next few months our Your Vale campaign will be highlighting what people are doing and what the Council is doing to support them. We want to support your efforts and we celebrate all those people who go out of their way to make the Vale a good place to live and work.

Please let us know about what you are doing that supports the Your Vale campaign – either by emailing or calling the contact details on the right.

Also, we want to encourage more people to get involved in doing their bit. Even simple things can really help, like not using plastic bags, changing your light bulbs, getting your home insulated or buying local. To help you get started here are some ideas of things you can do to help with links to pages on our website where you can get more information and advice:

  • Reduce the amount of waste you create - see our How to reduce waste pages for lots of ideas on how you can cut down on the amount of waste you send to landfill.
  • Recycle more of your waste - see our Recycling pages to find out about the many ways in which you can recycle your waste rather than sending it to landfill.
  • Compost your garden and cardboard waste - see our Garden waste pages for details on how to sign up to our Brown Bin scheme, which offers fortnightly collections of garden and cardboard waste, or for how to order your own composter to start composting at home.
  • Save energy in your home - see our Saving energy pages for top energy saving tips, including low cost and no cost ideas, and to find out about the grants available for heating and insulation.
  • Save water - see our page on Special offers on composters and water butts to find out how to order a discounted water butt kit to help you save water.
  • Hold a community litter pick - see our page Need help with a community litter pick? to find out how our Environment Wardens can help by providing litter picking kits and organising for your litter to be collected afterwards.
  • Play your part in making your community safer - see our Community safety pages for details about how to join a neighbourhood Watch group or get involved in your ocal Neighbourhood Action Group
  • Report problems in your community so we can help tackle them - see our Report it pages to find out how you can let us know about problems in your community such as anti-social behaviour, fly-tipping, noise nusiance or benefit fraud.
  • Have your say on issues affecting the Vale - see our Consultation page for details of how to join our Vale Voice citizens panel and also to find out about other issues the Council is consulting on.
  • Register to vote - See our Elections and electoral registration pages for details of how to join the electoral register to make sure you make your voice count in the next elections.
