The Council is responsible for a wide range of duties in connection with waste management in the Vale, including:

Collections of rubbish, recycling and brown bins

Find out what days your rubbish bins/bags, recycling boxes and brown bins will be collected, including the collection dates for holiday periods. Find out also what to do if your rubbish or recycling has not been collected as it should, and how to arrange for a special collection if you are elderly or disabled.

Disposing of vehicles

We can help you get rid of vehicles you no longer want. We will also ensure that any abandoned vehicles are dealt with – find out about how to report them to us. 

Educational and community work

Find out about the work we are involved in to promote the need to reduce, reuse and recycle waste wherever possible.  

Garden waste

Sign up to our Brown Bin scheme for fortnightly collections of your garden waste and cardboard every fortnight for £34.50 a year. Full details about this scheme, including how to join, can be found in this section. See here also for advice about how to compost at home, including details of how to buy compost bins and water butts at discounted rates.

Household waste

See here for information about to how to deal with a range of different types of waste. Also find out about the special collections of large or bulky items that the Council can provide.   

How to reduce waste

Find out why it is so important to reduce the amount of waste you put out for collection to landfill and get some tips on how to do this. Also find out how the Council is meeting targets it has been set by recycling or composting 33 per cent of all household waste it collects.

Recycling

Find out how easy it is to recycle your waste. There are many different ways in which you can dispose of waste rather than sending it to landfill. See this section for details of how to recycle, including what you can put in your green box, how to recycle other items, where you can find recycling facilities as well as details about commercial recycling. Also, find out how your recycled items can be reused.

Street cleaning

All public streets in the district are cleaned on a regular basis by Council contractors, who are also responsible for empting litter bins, cleaning town centres and removal of fly-tipped waste, dead animals and for cleaning up graffiti and vandalism.
