Educational and community work

We work in partnership with other Councils in Oxfordshire to help promote the need to reduce, re-use and recycle waste wherever possible.

We also help fund initiatives which aim to raise awareness of waste issues in schools and the wider community.

One such initiative is the Wild Waste Show, an interactive roadshow for schools across the County. The Wild Waste Show, which is run by the Northmoor Trust, visits several schools in the Vale each year. It also provides outreach support to both primary and secondary schools. For more information about the Wild Waste Show see this page of the Northmoor Trust website.

The Council’s Environment Wardens can also help, advice and equipment to anyone who wants to organise a litter pick. For more information, please see our page Need help with a community litter pick?

In some cases we can also offer support for community groups wanting to raise awareness of waste issues.  Please contact the Vale’s Communications Team using the contact details on your right if you would like advice on the help we can provide.

Do you want to do something positive to improve the environment where you live?

There is a network of local volunteers in Oxfordshire who have formed Community Action Groups or CAGs with the aim of making a difference to the environment where they live. Each CAG has its own ideas of how this can be done, and each group is unique. Activities include regular swap shops intended to divert waste from landfill, organising litter picks in local areas, community composting and much more. To find out if there is a CAG where you live, or how you can start up your own group, visit the Community Action Groups website.
