Brown bin cancellations, returns and refunds

Should you wish to cancel your brown bin collection, contact the Waste Management Team – see the contact details on the right – at the earliest possible opportunity.

Inorder to qualify for a refund

Refunds will be possible in the following circumstances:

  • The householder cancels their order before the brown bin is delivered
  • The householder moves out of the District part way through the year.

Refunds will be subject to an administration charge. If the cancellation is made a long way into the current contract year there may not be a refund.

There will not be an administration charge if:

  • There is a serious service failure e.g. repeat missed collections or the bin is not delivered in the specified time and the householder cancels the order
  • The Council withdraws the service.

In the following circumstances, refunds would not be made:

  • The contents of the bin are contaminated and no collection is given
  • The bin is not presented for empting by 7am on the day of collection
  • The householder decides to withdraw from the scheme when there have been no service delivery issues.

Regarding next year’s payments, where payment has been made by direct debit, notification will be sent of annual deduction from the account. When payment has been made by other means a reminder will be sent enabling residents to renew by cheque, cash at Council offices, or over the phone by credit or debit card.
