Garden waste and other types of organic material can produce harmful greenhouse gases if sent to landfill. The most environmentally friendly way of disposing of this kind of waste is to compost it. In order to help residents do this, the Vale operates a brown bin scheme in which garden waste and cardboard is collected every fortnight from outside your house for £34.50 a year. These pages explain how the scheme works and how you can join. For details of when your brown bin is collected see the calendar on the right hand side of the page.
Garden waste can also be taken to County waste recycling centres - check here to find your nearest centre. Also, to help Vale residents compost their own garden and kitchen waste at home, we are offering compost bins and water butts at discounted rates. Please see the page listed below for more details about these special offers.
Please be aware we are introducing a new rubbish and recycling collection service on 4 October. The brown bin scheme will continue, and if you have a brown bin this will still be collected fortnightly but from October your collection day may be changing. The only other change to this service is that from October you will not able able to put cardboard in your brown bin and will instead need to put it out for recycling. To find out more about the new service and to check your new collection details please see Your new waste collection service.
If you need any further advice about the brown bin scheme please contact our Waste Management Team - see the contact details on the right.
