The Council’s contractors clean all public streets in the district on a rota basis. This can be anything from daily to once every eight weeks according to the classification of the area. For specific information about the regularity of cleansing please contact the Waste Management Team.
There are four crews of cleaners, who operate a “Green Machine” for cleaning town centres and pavements and who use a large and small channel sweeper for roads, verges and channels.
You can report a street cleaning problem using our online form on the right. Alternatively you can contact the Waste Management Team – see the contact details on the right.
Our contractors are also responsible for removing the following types of waste from public areas – not from private land. Please report any problems you are aware of so that we can arrange for them to be dealt with.
Litter Bins
Litter bins on highways in the Vale which have a District Council logo are emptied on a regular basis. You can report an overflowing using our online form on the right. Alternatively please contact the Waste Management Team.
Spillages on roads
If the spillage is causing a hazard to road users then the police should be contacted in the first instance. The Thames Valley Police non emergency number is 0845 8 505 505. If the spillage is large enough to cause partial blockage of the highway then Oxfordshire County Council Highways Department should be contacted by calling 01235 531331. Dumped or fly-tipped waste
The Council is responsible for removing dumped or fly-tipped waste from public highway and highway verges. Council contractors will deal with this as soon as possible once we have been notified. If waste has been dumped on private land it is the responsibility of the landowner to remove it. You can also report instances of fly-tipping on public land using our online form on the right. Alternatively contact the Waste Management Team.
For more information about fly-tipping see Fly-tipping - what is the Council doing and how to report it.

Fly-posting
Fly-posting is the unwanted sticking up of posters, bills, labels etc. Council contractors will remove graffiti from public buildings although removing fly-posting on private property, such as empty shops, is the responsibility of the property owner.
