Faringdon

Faringdon is located near to the A420 with easy access to Swindon and the M4. It is the main market town in the south west of Oxfordshire. It has an interesting variety of shops, restaurants and a small market on Tuesdays. There is a Farmers Market on the first Tuesday in the month.

The Faringdon Joint Economic Forum is working to improve the vitality of the town. The Forum is made up of representatives of the Vale of White Horse District Council, Faringdon Town Council and Faringdon Chamber of Commerce.

Recent projects supported by the Joint Economic Forum (JEF) include:

  • Faringdon Folly Tower regeneration project
  • Faringdon Arts Festival
  • Faringdon Craft Fair
  • Faringdon in Bloom.

The JEF were also successful in applying for SEEDA's Small Rural Towns Funding to support the Faringdon skatepark, Faringdon Folly Tower and walking and cycling route cards for the town.  The minutes of recent JEF meetings can be downloaded from the right of the page.

Faringdon is a Fairtrade town, meaning that it has made a commitment to buy Fairtrade products when possible. Fairtrade products are designed to offer more equitable returns for farmers in Africa, Asia and Latin America. Faringdon has undertaken a Market Town Healthcheck to address issues such as unemployment, low monthly earnings, transport access problems, parking issues etc, in partnership with the Vale of White Horse District Council, Faringdon Town Council and the South East England Development Agency. The Vale's Economic Development team work in partnership with the Joint Economic Forum, the Town Council and other partners to improve town centre vitality in our key market towns.  The strategy supports the council’s strategic objective 'supporting a vibrant economy' and the corporate priority to 'work in partnership to sustain vibrant market towns'.  The strategy and action plan also supports the Vale sustainable community strategy 2008/16 priority: ‘maintaining and enhancing the health and vitality of the Vale’s market town centres’.  The Strategy and Action Plan for Faringdon and Wantage outlines the key projects in the towns.
