Need help with a community litter pick?

Council environment wardens can offer a helping hand to people in the district who want to do their bit to keep their local community clean and tidy.

They can provide help, advice and equipment to anyone who wants to organise a litter pick.

Our wardens will arrange for litter picking kits to be delivered to you in time for your event and will then organise for all the litter collected to be picked up by our waste contractors the following day.

The equipment kits are free to borrow, and include safety vests and gloves, litter picking sticks and separate bags to collect rubbish and recycling so we can ensure as much litter as possible is recycled rather than sent to landfill.

Anyone can borrow the kits, from a small group of friends or neighbours to clubs, schools or voluntary groups.

Voluntary Litter Picking

If you are thinking about getting a group together to carry out a litter pick in your area the council maybe able to help with equipment. We have a limited amount of litter picking equipment that can be loaned at no cost. We will provide plastic sacks and arrange for the waste contractors to pick up the filled sacks for you.

The equipment that we have is:-

60 litter picking sticks and 60 various sizes of high visibility waistcoats.

At certain times of the year the equipment is in great demand, so before setting your date for your litter pick, please phone our Environment Wardens on the contact details on the right of this page to make sure the equipment is available for you. We will deliver the equipment to your organiser prior to the event and if possible will pick it up after, so there is no need for anyone to collect the equipment from our offices. You will need to arrange with our Environment Warden a convenient picking up point for the full sacks.

Unfortunately, we have no influence over the weather, but wish you well in helping to keeping your community tidy.
