How to pay parking penalties

You could be issued with a parking ticket for the following contraventions:

  • If you overstay your parking ticket
  • If you fail to display a ticket, permit or disabled badge
  • If you park out of the marked bay
  • For unauthorised parking

If you recieve an excess charge notice - known as a fine - you will have to pay a penalty of £80. This is reduced to £50 if it is paid within ten days of the day it was issued.

How to pay your fine
Payments can be made over the telephone by credit or debit card, or by cheque or cash in person or by cheque sent by post. 

  • Payment by telephone: Ring our automated payment service on 01235 540374 to pay instantly by credit or debit card 24 hours a day. Please ensure you have your excess charge number to hand when making a payment.
  • Payment by cheques or postal orders (which should be crossed) - These should made payable to the Vale of White Horse District Council. Please send them to PO Box 130, The Abbey House, Abingdon, OX14 3JR. 
  • Payment in person: You can pay by cash or cheque in person at the Local Services Points in Abingdon or Wantage.
  • Pay online by visiting our Online Payments page. 

It is essential to quote your excess charge number or vehicle registration number when making payment. If you would like a VAT receipt please enclose a stamped addressed envelope. 

How to appeal the fine
If you wish to appeal, the Car Park Section cannot give you a decision over the telephone, as all appeals are governed by guidelines set by elected Councillors. Please note that all appeals must be in writing and received within seven days of issue of the charge notice.
